We are absolutely thrilled to receive this nomination for the Blogger Recognition Award! While at times the growth of To Unearth has felt slow and tedious, we’re incredibly grateful to all our readers who have encouraged us and who continue supporting our mission!
First, we would like to thank Ava James at Inspired by HIS Words for nominating To Unearth. Ava has a beautiful blog about urban contemporary Christian living with articles on faith, fashion and healthy living. Be sure to check out her site!
Emily: I began my journey of blogging full-time a little less than a year ago. When I felt like God was telling me to quit my full-time job and transition to blogging, my first thought was “Yeah, right!” But I knew this was His calling for me for this season of life, and so I began To Unearth with Christie as a way to write about how God uses the ordinary of our lives to point out His extraordinary.
Christie: When she first mentioned the idea of a website to me, I knew right away that the timing was perfect. I was in the throes of composing a compilation of adventures after six months of travel with missionaries on horseback, and Emily was doing the 9-5, on the verge of a marriage proposal and had an itch to write. I had recently sensed this inner nudging toward writing on more of a regular basis on my blog, so when she first asked what I thought about doing this website with her, an instant peace swept over me.

Advice for new bloggers
As we’re in the midst of learning how to navigate through this blogging world, we wanted to share a few tips we’ve learned along the way!
Consistency. It’s incredibly important to have time set aside each day and a plan in place for delivering content on a consistent basis. Without consistency, your viewers will not know what to expect from you, and eventually they’ll stop looking for what’s coming next. If you have a schedule set for when you’re delivering content, your audience will begin to look forward to what you’re providing them. And they will know they can rely on you.
Networking. Your blog won’t grow very much if you aren’t networking. Which means you need to take time each day to interact with other bloggers. One of the greatest networking tools we use is Facebook groups. Find groups about blogging and get involved. Meet other bloggers. Share their content. Ask them to guest post on your site. Blogging isn’t just about getting people to read and buy from your blog. It’s about supporting and learning from others who really know what they’re doing. We can’t stress this point enough!
One of the best parts about networking is reading other blogs. Here are some of our favorites and the blogs we’re nominating for the Blogger Recognition Award, in no particular order:
